The Clamps
The large self-locking clamping device of the clamps mean that they are easy to operate. If a mistake occurs during operation, the clamps can be opened by means of a lever.
The movable bearings of the clamping devices allow the edges of the piece to be held tightly, even when there are considerable differences in the thickness of the material.
The clamps are self clamping in tensioning direction so that the item will not be released from the clamp even at the strongest tensioning point.

Placing/Transferring the Pieces
The transfer of the pieces which have been spread out from the clamps onto the belts of the feeding machine is extremely significant to feeding quality and performance. As soon as the piece has been spread out, a vacuum transfer bar moves against it, the clamps open, and supported by compressed air, the leading edge of the piece comes to rest on the vacuum transfer bar. The vacuum transfer bar and the leading edge of the piece lying on it move forward. The vacuum is switched off just before the final position is reached and the leading edge of the piece is placed on the conveyor belts. There is a powerful vacuum beneath the perforated conveyor belts so that the pieces, whether sheets or heavy duvet covers, are held securely. The vacuum transfer bar guarantees that the feeding is straight. The clamps of the spreading mechanism release the piece as soon as it is transferred to the vacuum transfer bar, even if a proceeding piece has not yet left the conveyor belt.

Shaking out, Smoothing and Stretching
Immediately after the leading edge is stretched out and has been placed on the perforated conveyor belts, the feed roller transports the piece into the vacuum chute, which allows long items to "hang" freely. The strong, evenly distributed air flow causes the piece to be thoroughly shaken out. While they are being fed into the conveyor system of the feeding machine, the pieces are drawn over smoothing brushes which move in opposite directions. The combination of shaking out in the vacuum chute or suction by the vacuum transfer bar, smoothing brushes together with the stretching forces of the chute and/or vacuum table result in an excellent feeding quality.

The GEM is available in two models:

  • The High Speed Standard model is recommended for handling large pieces in 1-lane or combined 1 and 2-lane operation.
  • The High Speed Super Standard model can be optimally used for the entire spectrum of articles, both for large pieces in 1-lane or combined 1 and 2-lane operation, as well as small pieces in multi-lane operation.
